1. Imagine - what does the word peace mean to you?

I think, the word 'peace' has a very complex meaning. That means to me: freedom and individuality. But... it's very difficult to imagine, because wars still haven't stopped...

2. Imagine – what are the main obstacles to peace in our world?

The conflicts between countries... for money and authority. The terrorism and the lust for power. In Hungary mainly the racism...

3. Imagine - what have you done so far to promote peace in your own country?

So far I didn't do anything to promote peace in my country. I hope I will learn that how to be a good 'peacemaker'. That's my motivation.

4. Imagine - what can you do in the future to promote peace in your own country?

Maybe I will pay attention on my community/friends, and if someone would do or say something that's against the peace, I will take issue with him. 'or something like that'

Helga Csarnó, Birth Date: _

Participant of peacecamp 2010:
1. Imagine - what does the word peace mean to you?

It might sound weird, but i think the expression "world peace" actually suggests the lack of it. Hearing of war and hundreds of casualities became the part of our daily lives. Maybe word peace isn’t reachable… but it seems like we don’t even give a try.

2. Imagine - what are the main obstacles to peace in our world?

Cultural and material differences between people grew to big in the last decade, and those who need help can’t connect those who could give aid. I think most of us thinks about these problems, I personally have always felt a kind of twinge of conscience because I have everything I need. Maybe if everyone who has ever felt this way would do something and this whole passive way of thinking would change then our world would be a more peaceful place.

3. Imagine - what have you done so far to promote peace in your own country?

Well, I have always been very interested in knowing other cultures. I partecipated many student exchanges (with the Netherlands and many times with italian students – i go to the italian faculty of my school) and I can honestly say that these weeks were the best experiences of my life. It sounds crazy, but prejudices don’t disappear until you feel it on your own skin, how much people from a whole different culture are just the same weird teenagers. (: So I’m really interested in the issue and would be glad to learn more about it.

4. Imagine - what can you do in the future to promote peace in your own country?

I think there’s no such a demonstation or no national program that would change a whole country’s way of thinking. It just can’t be changed from one day to another. By now I recognized the it’s not me who will save our planet, because there’s no such a person. Maybe thinking in another way is the only thing I can do, maybe I will have to talk about this issues with other ones and make their thoughts change. I don’t know already what I’ll can to do for peace, but I’m quite sure I will do it.

1. Imagine - what does the word peace mean to you?

I think the word peace describes the ability of people to live together in a world with as little conflicts as possible. Of course I understand that it would be utopia to suggest a society without conflicts, but I think we can avoid them by talking to each other and not forcing fights in a violent way. I think peace means to accept each other, it doesn’t mean everyone has to be friends, but at least we should respect the other ones rights and needs.

2. Imagine - what are the main obstacles to peace in our world?

I think money and borders play important parts in the circle of war and peace, because it may occur that a fight in a global background starts because of different opinions, or as in many examples from history visible, because of religions, but what usually follows is just the expansion of the problem on other fields (land).

3. Imagine - what have you done so far to promote peace in your own country?

Maybe my work for a student’s page of a newspaper tries to unite, I wrote some articles on the topic of peace and intercultural dialogue, but I don’t think this is enough. I think it is important to react, when we even occasionally hear an attack against someone in the underground and react. In my opinion watching is as bad as committing an offense. What might be very important also is to discuss and try to talk to people with different opinions or views on certain topics.

4. Imagine - what can you do in the future to promote peace in your own country?

Probably dialogue is important in every context, so I think it is for myself very important to work on that and to make peace visible, because what we hear and see in the media over the day are mostly negative news, so I’d try to make peace work public and show everyone that there does exist an alternative called peace.

FABIAN SOMMER Birth Date August 20, 1993
Akademisches Gymnasium Wien
Participant of peacecamp 2010
1. Imagine- what does the word peace mean to you?

For me, the word “peace” is a very abstract term. Ideally it would mean that everyone would get along with each other without fighting and that there is no more war. In our private lives, it means getting along with others and accepting them for who they are.

2. Imagine- what are the main obstacles to peace in out would?

In my opinion, intolerance and poverty are large obstacles to peace. Poverty prevents peace because people with little to lose and a lot to gain are more likely to fight. Intolerance is an obstacle, because if you cannot accept someone else for who they are, you are more likely to denounce them and fight them.

3. Imagine- what have you done so far to promote peace in your own country?

While I do not believe that war is a big problem for Austria, I think that differences in race and religion cause problems here. That it why, in my everyday life, I try to be tolerant of other cultures and religions. On top of that, I try to get others to be more tolerant too.

4. Imagine- What can you do in the future to promote peace in your country?

I think that, to promote peace in Austria I could work towards the equality of all peoples, no matter where they come from or what their religion is.
